In much the same way that the average middle class individual today is freer than John D. Rockefeller was a century ago, a self-described middle-of-the-road entrepreneur is freer to actually do Philosophy than a tenured Philosophy professor and create a bigger impact in the process.
The essential task in a startup is to create wealth; the dimension of wealth you have most control over is how much you improve users' lives; and the hardest part of that is knowing what to make for them. Once you know what to make, it's mere effort to make it, and most decent hackers are capable of that.
There are great opportunities in front of us, for anyone whose eyes are open.
Friction (scarcity) allows for return on capital.
Lack of friction (abundance) allows for compounding growth.
The great businesses are the ones who harness both.
