For a child to achieve maturity, the parent-child relationship must be renegotiated, such that the new relationship is roomy enough to allow for the child’s increased capacities. But no one needs to leave anyone.
If our mom or dad expressed doubt or disapproval for our creative dreams, we may project that same attitude onto a parental god. This thinking must be undone.
How can we guide, protect, and provide for our children in the physical world, yet rigorously relinquish all sense of domination of their spirit, unless we have nurtured a free spirit within ourselves? If your spirit was squelched by parents who were divorced from their own emotional freedom, there is a risk you will squelch your own children.
