Toward a Unified Field Theory of Human Flourishing
Just as I have never met anyone who chose to become addicted, neither have I met anyone whose addictions did not, at their onset at least, provide for some essential human need.
Strangely enough, problems can become addicting, and many codependents become drama addicts. If we live with misery, crises, and turmoil long enough, the fear and stimulation caused by problems can become a comfortable emotional experience.
