That’s another key difference with Slack, based on the same architectural divergence. In Slack, employees can DM each other within their company’s workspace; in Discord, users can DM anyone as long as they know their handle (and as long as that user accepts DMs).

Writing a document is easy. But sharing a document to get thoughts from my team has been hard. I’ve sent out the link over Slack, asked for feedback by a certain date, tried to monitor who’s opened it, pinged people to read it again, and maybe ended up with a handful of inline comments that don’t give me meaningful feedback.

Second, most community members complain that, on chat platforms, they often answer the same question or address the same concern many times over. The conversations just disappear too quickly for others to easily find, and since they’re not indexed or perma-linked, it’s difficult to reference previously answered questions.
