Thinking is a creative act that can disclose or discover new meanings in old stories, even if the way they are read departs from the interpretations of the scholars who have assumed ownership of the material.

•Working on the level of story has two dimensions. First is to disrupt the old, which says, “What you thought was real is just an illusion.” Second is to offer a new [one], which says, “The possible, and the real, are much grander than you knew.” The first, we experience as crisis and breakdown. The second, we experience as miraculous.
