I Feel, Therefore I Am: The Triumph of Woke Subjectivism

If it’s all a free and fluid nonbinary choice of gender and sexual partners, a choice to have sex exclusively with the same sex would not be an expression of our identity, but a form of sexist bigotry, would it not?

Lia Thomas, when he swam for the men’s team at Penn during the 2018–19 season, was ranked 65th nationally in the 500-freestyle.117 Now, competing as a woman against women, he’s blowing away Olympic medalists.

Worse still, the mere presence of men who identify as women in women’s events will prevent an equal number of hopeful female athletes from achieving, or even glimpsing, their full athletic potential.

Remember that the purpose of a safe space is not to protect people; it’s to protect people’s feelings, to set their feelings beyond rational debate. To render them true by virtue of their being sincerely felt.

She’s right, but with an if. It makes no sense, scientific or otherwise, for Thomas to compete against female swimmers…if you believe that women’s sports should exist in the first place.

Roughly ten thousand male sprinters—a number that includes runners who’ll never catch a whiff of a world class men’s race—have personal best times in the 100-meters faster than the current women’s Olympic champion.

How you react to the truth, of course, is a matter of conscience. You can ignore it and hope that no one notices, or you can adjust to it. But if, for the sake of people’s feelings, you can be made to admit, or even worse to believe, that what’s true is false, or what’s false is true, then you’re lost. Intellectually and morally, you’re lost.

As of this writing, Title IX again prohibits discrimination based on gender identity…which means that a biologically male student who identifies as female is eligible to compete in women’s and girls’ sports.

Intellectually, however, people who attempt to shut down ideas have thrown in their lot with fanaticism.
