Mark Carney on how the economy must yield to human values

Without building durable and shared sites of worth outside of market relations, we are stuck with the valuation of worth as productivity.

When everything is convertible, and when trust depends on anonymous coins and cowry shells, it corrodes local traditions, intimate relations and human values, replacing them with the cold laws of supply and demand.

Unlike capitalism it believes that the free market, without periodic redistributions, creates inequalities that are ultimately unsustainable because they deprive some individuals of independence and hope.
