Brain Food: Letting Go
Think big, go after it, and keep your self-status and sense of self-worth strong enough that if you fail a bit—or even fall short of those larger goals much of the time—that you will still have fun trying again. Think big, imagine big, visualize big, and don’t care if anyone sees you succeed or fail—just enjoy the journey.
Here’s what most people think: If I get my goal, I’ll be happy. If I don’t get my goal, I’ll be sad. It’s simply not true: Pain and pleasure are something we need to understand better. Is there pleasure in NOT getting my goal? Yes. Is there pain in GETTING my goal? Yes. This needs to be discussed.
Performing at the highest level is not about talent, ability, size, speed, facilities, equipment, weather conditions, or even effort. It’s about being free. Free from expectations of self and others, free from criticism, free from fear, and free from “should” and “have to.”
