Many of us have clear visions of what kind of world we don’t want to live in, but are struggling to imagine the kind of world we would live in - let alone how to build that world. We need new narratives to illuminate what’s broken in our society and hands-on solutions for a more sustainable, equal and resilient world.
The thought that keeps me awake at night is that the further we get into the big challenges of Now – economic inequality, climate change, the very real risk of the collapse of many of the key aspects of the economy we depend on, mass migration and so on – the less able we are to imagine a way out of them.
Once I started thinking about the world not as it was but as it might be, I could more clearly diagnose the problems with my own time and place—and mentally play with possible solutions.
