I had a boss who combed through my likes before making a final decision to hire me. I talked to another friend who called snooping likes “the last good way of stalking someone online.” Both of these point to the idea that likes are weirdly a good window into who someone is. It's certainly a better window than what they post.

These titles weren’t made for the intended viewer or even their parents. These were made for algorithms—for machines to scrape and absorb.

A stray thought: the correct 21st-century definition of “content” isn’t “generic media” but rather “the specific kind of media designed for platforms and algorithms”. The clue is that “content creators” exist only on (for?) platforms.

An API is an “application programming interface” that allows two apps to communicate, sending data between someone requesting something and a database full of data.

A curator exists in the space between people who want to know more about a topic and the massive amounts
