Because Christ humbled himself and became a servant and met our needs even at the cost of his own life, now we are like servants—but to one another.

Bonhoeffer has no patience for making relationships into a third thing outside the two persons in relationship, which would make the relationship into an instrument or a means to acquire something else outside the relationship.
